When George H. W. Bush signed the first pledge to halt GHG emissions at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992 he said, before he put pen to paper, that the "American Way of Life was non-negotiable." That little insight has been proven to be true over and over again. There is no negotiating with toxic polluters, invading armies, criminal banking enterprises, deceitful politicians or corrupt healthcare institutions. To pretend that there is only works in the favor of corporate interests. As we are seeing with the refusal of people to work for paltry salaries and weak benefits, corporations struggle when the people refuse to be part of the American Way of Life. We do have the power. Turn off your TV set. Unplug from your computers. Pull your money out of Wells Fargo and Citibank. Do not participate in the American Way of Life because that life is built on the continuation of colonization of the planet and we are all, regardless of our precarious economic positions, victims of this continuing colonization.
